It seems there are some that choose to post various falsehoods about renewable energy in Australia.
They claim that coal generation is the best option and it is forever. The reality is, it's not.
It was once. It was what got us to where we are now. But, just like any other technology in the past, it is rapidly approaching it's use by date for two reasons.
1. Man made climate change. It is widely accepted that burning fossil fuels is causing unnatural climate change. The vast majority of governments and authorities around the world agree and are therefore switching to alternatives.
2. Renewable energy and storage is proving to be a better technology. Cheaper, way more flexible, infinitely more abundant and clean.
So, while the average punter might not follow the renewable energy industry closely and therefore not know what is actually happening under their noses, here's a bit of info.
Note that the biggest coal fired complex in Australia ( by nameplate capacity ) is Loy Yang A and B in Victoria. Around 3.5 GW if it was all running flat out. Which of course, it never really does. There are usually units offline for maintenance and/or breakdowns.
For context, there are multiple gigawatts of solar, wind and energy storage projects in planning or under construction all over the country. With that are new interconnector links to make the grid perform better. So, if it isn't windy in Qld but it's blowing a gail in SA, the power can be shipped efficiently across borders. And so on........
And then there's other new technologies like green hydrogen. Projects in every state in Australia to produce green hydrogen exports to the world.
Here is a list of links for your perusal. Enjoy.
