IMO, its a RW shock job to infer that the end of our coal
mining in Aus would be caused by the end of coal
fired power stations,
Approximately 20% of our total coal mined in used
domestically which means 80% is exported. IMO,
as we phase out our domestic use of coal, that
20% will readily find an overseas market thereby
adding to our export earnings & GDP & by far
offset the importation of our solar & wind hardware
imports.
We have to be realistic here. Australia cant close down
coal mining; otherwise the mine owners can take the
Australian Government to US courts and sue for the
lifetime value of these mines which, at present, are
almost 100% foreign owned. So the bottom line is
that the Aussie taxpayer cant afford our Government
closing down Aus coalmines.
The prospect for Aus coal mining is more coal mined,
not less given current global demand particuluarly from
India and other emerging economies with growing
manufacturing trends.
So the bottom line is that Aus can be 100% green
electricity and an increase in coal mining exclusively
for export at the same time.
And lets face it, we sold out our coal mines years ago
and we cant do a Venzeuela on them without severe
economic consequences for Aus, IMO.
