"Some would fail and,
Some would prosper.
Some would die and,
Some would kill.....,
Some would curse John Sutter's Mill.
There have been many excellent and highly informative posts sifting through the drilling results with all trying to assess the size of the fat bird we have in the hand as opposed to the other hapless hopefuls who are still chasing that elusive flock in the bush.
As my opening quote suggests I am not a geo ,so I can add nothing to the technical discussion-my focus is more on the "atmospherics" and the past repeating itself.
Looking back over the decades I get the sense that we are at a rare defining point whereby the next generation of new wealth is in the early stages of creation. Those who can withstand the headwinds now, stand aside from the debilitating greed/fear swings in sentiment and keep their eye on the ball, and nothing else except on the ball, will be those who 'will' prosper.(MYG at.065 is like future wealth being offered on a bargain plate!)Those who don't will 'fail' and 'curse John Sutter's Mill-i.e. look for scapegoats and blame everyone but themselves.
A more recent concrete example of making a vast fortune by standing aside from "the herd" has to be the savant like eccentric Mike Burry from the USA. In a flash of realisation on 19/3/2005 it dawned on him that a fortune could be made by taking out credit default swaps (insurance) on weak subprime bonds, sure to fail, and ones he did not have to own.
i.e. -a derivative. At the time this money instrument was little known, used, or understood.Burry proceeded to buy credit default swaps very cheaply,(e.g.$11,000 would buy $10M.in insurance)starting in 2005 and 3 years later reaped more than a $1B. when the bond market tanked.I am not suggesting that money of that magnitude can be made from MYG.The point which I have tried to illustrate is that by recognising that a time in history in which you find yourself being at a critical point is one which does not come around often.I would suggest that we are at that point now.Stay focused on only that which matters,be patient(Burry was for 3 years)and be aware that history is repeating itself now and repeating itself favourably for those who stay sensible and hold their nerve no matter what.Maybe more easily said than done, but I will try my best
and hope to still be there to share a good red with those on this distinguished forum who have been part of this wild and exciting ride when it all comes good.
