I have just figured out the REAL reason for the US subprime property fiasco.
By mismanaging the home finance market and throwing many US citizens - a large proportion of whom would be called "battlers" in Australia - the US Government has created conditions which boost recruitment in their ARMY, which is very short of volunteers right now.
