Anyone remember Zaire? Kabila came along and ousted the deeply corrupt Mobutu. It was a huge change for the better. Then another rebellion sprang up in the east, backed by the militaries of Uganda, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe, and the country was overrun for a second time in just a couple of years, by neighbours angling for a cut of the gemstone business.

The now Democratic Republic of Congo is a basket case to this day.

Taya is now a guest of the government of Niger. There are simmering conflicts in several nearby West African nations. Mauritania is itself a melting pot of Black and Arab Africa. Only time will tell whether things have settled or not, and until time has told, companies doing business there will have their shares discounted by the market.
