Was just listening to the ABC radio and the Westpac survey results were discussed.
People were asked a question as to what is a good investment at the moment:
7% said shares
14% said property
I don't put any weight on this part of the survey.
The share market is going pretty ordinary at the moment and the property market is under pressure as a whole.
There are people making lots of money on the share market as I type this message and there is exactly the same going on in the property market.
There are people holding quality blue chips that are going down in price and they wouldn't even care - it is the not the focus of their day - the market rises and falls.
People in their homes right now happy to own them and may be deciding whether to change the cook-top, paint a wall or plant a shrub. People renting that are happy to have the flexibility to leave at any month they choose.
Basically, lots of Aussies going about their day that may have shares and property as an investment, just shares, just their own home or whatever combination.
Are shares going to go up in the next few months? Is property ?
These are just a part of our life, if you want em go and get em if you don't....don't.
I think we place too much of our energy justifying what we do directly and indirectly by 'scorning ' the choices of others.
Back to the Westpac survey, I am sure that a lot of people think cash is good investment at the moment too.
In my life owning my home is a great investment from every perspective and has won every year over any other investment in my eyes. There will be others that say renting has won for them hand over fist. What a great result, two people happy and both made good investments.
The best investment is to be a person that appreciates the real things of value in our lives, the rest are just toys.
