I'm thinking that the US will retain their reserve currency status for a while yet, countries like Australia won't abandon America so quickly when we need their military.
The real problem with America is whether they can control their debt and in particular can they reduce their Medicare payouts in the future. Because if they can't control that their currency is stuffed.
Something which perhaps is coming out of left field is the shale gas & tar oil - it has the potential to fire up their economy again and increase their tax take, but is it enough.
