Yes its the rail that starts to pull back on the transportation costs, as transportation is all about the volume moved per unit over distance i.e the more volume the the cost per tonne is diluted and less distance = more cycles over a period of time; this reduces truck units, labour fuel etc etc

For example, the coal rail carts carry about 110 tonnes, which is near 4 truck loads. so the faster you can get material down to the rail point the better, as this will provide you with more volume over time.

Dr Manhattans post is what some dont see and its this - Looking at the simplest road solution using 30 tonne loads. 350,000 tonnes of 6% concentrate / 30 tonnes = 11666 trips per year or 32 trips per day

These trip numbers over that distance is what you want to avoid. remember, each trip is going to take probably 2.5 days inclusive of rest periods.....that's a lot of truck movements
The road for Hydroxide, not a problem, as the movement and profits margin easily soaks the transportation cost right up; but for concentrate, its probably squeezing it a bit.....I dont believe BGSs $99 a tonne movement cost fwiw.

The Northern route for me, is the best option that will provide good volume and takes the road ratio right back down. Id be taking that barge size well up; 2500 tonne min barges i dont think would be an issue TBH; just keep roading them up the old belgian line for 45km and filling those barges up ; 1.5 to 2 days up the river and it hits the rail line and on it goes. The rail line is an unscheduled, so it goes when its needed, which does mean that its not near capcity at all; no doubt it will to go through a bit of an overhaul, but the rail is in and then from Kalemie; well theres no issue IMO and out through Salaam .

Its the shortest over all route over land and its the quickest shipping route to China. You wanna move large volume of concentrate without choking? then i think the Northern is hands down the route to take; it will reduce both time and $$$.

Ok so I am clear.

From Manono its approx 45km west by Truck to the Lualaba river. Load barge and approx 150km barge to Kabalo. Load in train and train 250km to Kalemie. Load from train to barge and barge 120km to Kigoma. Load from barge to train and train 1000km to Dar es Salaam?

Is this correct?
