Sorry CromagnonMan I've mislead you! When I say lab rats I mean the scientists at Epitan (that's a science geek term for lab scientists). As for production- these companies could produce a few tonnes a day if there was the demand. Another great thing that I did not mention about Melanotan is that as a tan fades people have to keep `topping up'- this means repeat customers and repeat $$$. Unfortunately it does not look like that this product will ever be able to be produced as an oral form which would be the ideal way to administer this drug. The reason for this is that the stomach enzymes would break down the polypeptide and absorb it as separate amino acids rather than the intact chain of 13 which must be maintained in order to retain its physiological (melanocyte stimulatory) activity.
