yes, it would be good if the Senate allows only politically non-aligned candidates. In my mind, independent senators are a good thing for our parliamentary democracy.
In so far as the number of senators, our Commonwealth Constitution stipulates the ratio between the House and the Senate. To reduce the number of senators will require a change to the Commonwealth Constitution.
