I like your 'mine in a shed' analogy Coxxy. Seems to me that Australia knows, understands and invests in the resource sector (ie. mining), often ignoring other sectors and technologies. The health sector is only just starting to come on our radar, after screaming for years to get funding, etc. Science, health, technology & other great fields have been neglected for years as the mining sector boomed - and possibly rightly so? But the tide is turning - get read to broaden your minds and your horizons. We're going to see some amazing developments in the coming years.....particularly in the tech and health sectors. And I have no doubt mining will keep chugging along as it always has.
