It looks like the shorts are unwinding their position and are successfully exiting at the lows. Sentiment for ASM is poor and maybe some of the placement holders are selling for money management reasons... hence plenty of volume for the shorts to get out.
I was hoping the short position remained high because that was a possible pool of forced buyers and maybe we could see some of our money come back to us. Doesn't look like happening.
A lot of grumbling on the forum but mostly I think it is justified.
@fup is correct to complain about the shifted timelines.... shareholders were given emphatic encouragement to believe Dubbo would be operational in 2024 but now we are told 2027. As far as the short position is concerned, since it is clear they can exit without penalty my hope is they do so completely and leave the stock alone. The timelines, as they have been amended, are probably realistic and the announcements which come in the future should mostly be positive... if the shorts do exit then at the least we won't have the selling pressure they exert to protect their position.
If the shorts do completely exit the bright side is it indicates they no longer see much downside left to exploit. Not much consolation for long term holders but better than what we have been put through... imo.
