You can generally gauge the mood by looking at the charts. Its a good idea to play these stocks by reading the chart because there are always insiders. When a trial is positive or there is a good merger (eg Sigma) etc insiders buy up big. Then they spread the information through mates etc and you see volume climb with price - then you know you have a winner.
Look at OPT and PNV - the stock was on the decline way before the bad news is let out.
Therefore, the moment it breaks a short term average you should be out.
