Pope Alexander VI encouraged slavery in 1493 when he handed papal bulls to Portugal and Spain to reduce their persons into perpetual slavery...wherever they may be.
As they also financed these Portughese/Spanish explorations in that period it is highly likely they also financed the West African slave trade
Not uncommon, as the muslims were very well versed in the art of slavery well before that.
So if we are talking about sins of the fathers
how far back do we go?

do we limit it to slavery?
Lucky for our indigenous that the Spanish/Portughese were too busy in South America to worry about Australia
