The very fact that Toyota have been fairly strident on their opinion recently tells me that they are now very worried about the world wide trend towards EVs and Toyota's inability to compete in that market. 20 years ago Toyota led the hybrid world with their Prius and they could have easily followed that with an unbeatable range of EVs. For some strange reason their leadership completely dropped the ball and allowed Elon and others to pick it up. Now all Toyota can do is bleat pitifully about how bad EV's are while they try desperately to find the ball and score a few goals.
