I guess there is little difference between subsidies and government ownership. You would think that with nuclear power to get a foothold and an industry started in Australia, it would be best to be government-owned initially, as all infrastructure was before deregulation.
Also, if we have nuclear submarines, it makes sense to get something moving sooner rather than later, even if it is in a small way. TBH, the climate net zero targets are making us make dumb decisions in the interest of time. I see other countries perhaps abandoning the targets to focus more on the best and most reliable strategy to get to net zero.
There is no doubt that global faith has been lost in the 100% renewable strategy; you can sense it.
