The issue unaddressed by a lot of renewable proponents is the battery question.

Despite the ridiculously high cost that is often not factored in (lets snapshot solar power in middle of december at 1pm and proclaim how cheap solar is). But how much battery storage do you build? Is it 1 day? 1 week? longer? Cause if you get that wrong (and we will), we will be left with a system that completely fails at T+1 day of battery capacity because we have never had 8 days of continuous rain before, the most we have ever had is 7!

Which means that you need baseload power in the mix that can be ramped up to compensate, and potentially balance out the battery discharge and stretch the available power out.
It then shifts towards what baseload power satisfied the reliability, cost and environmentally/carbon safe aspect? We can have a mix of coal, gas or nuclear.

Take your pick, but the idea that we are (or even should) be 100% reliant on renewables is madness if we wish to remain a productive and competitive economy.

Its just as fanciful as LNP saying we are going to build 7 nuclear reactors in a decade.
