My understanding from what I have seen is that coal still accounts for 60% of their energy needs. Which is not too bad given the massive energy requirements.
Totally impossible for China to be 100% renewables and they have said that themselves. China will ultimately replace some if those coal-fired plants and convert to nuclear.
