They want to pull down Winston Churchill's statue. A man of his times, by his willpower he galvanised the people of a small island to resist the onslaught of forces of such darkness as had never before been seen.
They want to pull down the statue of Thomas Jefferson. A man of his times, he was instrumental in the American Revolution, the writing of the Constitution and the early governments of his country.
They want to pull down the statue of General Robert E Lee. A man of his times, he reluctantly took up arms in the Civil War and only did so because he and others of his generation believed that the sovereign rights of the States they lived in had been usurped by the Federal government contrary to the Constitution.
If they believe these people and others their ancestors wanted to honour no longer need be respected, then they've got a long long way to go before their job is done. They need to go to Florence, Rome, Athens, Berlin, every foreign capital where they will find statues of the ancients who committed horrific acts against mankind's conscience, they need to pull them all down or they are just selective hypocrites. Or probably it is kinder just to see them as misguided fools who don't understand that history doesn't go away, it is always there behind us. They can't undo it.
