PCE is obviously going to be concentrating on getting cash-flow from it's UCG projects as soon as possible.

The batteries already ordered will in the meantime be installed and operate, generating a stream of press releases adding to the public and expert knowledge of the reliability and cost effectiveness of these new systems.

At the same time Australia will be installing increasing amounts of photovoltaic power systems as the attached article from the ABC in the Northern Territory demonstrates.

At some point interest in the flow batteries for community scale (say 100 houses x 2 kW x 8 hours-->200kW and 1.6MWhr scale installations to run fridges/TV/airconditioners at night) will rise.

Then orders for VRBs will start in earnest. And VRB in Canada will be able to supply by then.

Power provider looks to expand remote solar power
The Northern Territory's electricity provider is planning to expand its use of solar power in remote communities now that it is cheaper to run than diesel generators.

The Power and Water Corporation uses solar dishes to generate power for the communities of Hermannsburg, Yuendumu and Lajamanu in central Australia.

The company's sustainable energy manager, Trevor Horman, says the rising price of diesel makes solar power competitive.

He says if federal solar subsidies stay in place, more communities will make the switch.

"We might do two or three each year for the next five years. It depends on the evolution of the technology, if the price of distillate dropped, that might make a difference, but we're not ... planning on that," he said.
