The Gov here supposedly guarantees $250,000 of your savings in each account and this come about at around the time of the GFC, to stop people panicking and running to the banks. However, if sh.. hit the fan there is no way the Gov could pay it.
Not to mention, some years back there was a meeting in our Eastern states with many world leaders representatives. The deal struck and signed by all, that if WW3 broke out, they could draw from peoples funds to finance it.
