It is impossible to grasp what this "left" is you talk of, at best fringe matters that only exist in the nightmares of conservatives. Obviously not the traditional definition. After all the Boomers generation were the ultimate "tune in/drop out" free love hippy generation who then got a free (Communist) education, then rigged the financial systems to be based around passive wealth generating assets and NOT work. Now they support an opposition leader saying Communism is the solution to climate change.
If anything young people are now far more hard headed and economic realists. Who cares about culture war garbage.... no time for that !
