The Enduring Seventh-Day Sabbath: A Biblical Mandate and a Divine Sign

The concept of Sabbath, a holy day of rest, has been present since the very creation of the world, according to Scripture. Genesis 2:2-3 tells us that YHWH Himself rested on the seventh day, blessing and sanctifying it as a holy day. From this initial sanctification, the Sabbath has stood as a divine mandate—a day separate from all others. However, history reveals how human influence altered this command, replacing the seventh-day Sabbath with pagan Sunday worship, a shift formalized under Constantine’s rule. Here I am to establish the Sabbath’s continued relevance through Scripture, expose the human efforts that attempted to change it, and explore the prophetic role the Sabbath plays as a sign for God's people in the end times.

Many reject this, purely due to their customs and misleading denominations that try to make excuses or find loop holes within scripture.. For me the Sabbath is a true blessing, one that I embrace each week from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, this is the one true and only Sabbath.

    1. The Biblical Foundation of the Seventh-Day Sabbath

The observance of the Sabbath originates not as a mere suggestion, but as a command from YHWH. In Exodus 20:8-11, we read the Fourth Commandment: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” This commandment is part of the Ten Commandments given to Israel, but it represents a divine law for all humanity. The text clearly states, “the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.” Furthermore, YHWH bases this command on His own act of creation, making the seventh day sacred for all creation, not just the nation of Israel.

In Isaiah 56:6-7, the Sabbath is presented as a blessing for all nations, including foreigners who join themselves to YHWH, showing that it is not merely a Jewish institution but one that extends to all who choose to follow Him. Yeshua, in the New Covenant, also emphasizes the Sabbath’s importance, declaring, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27). This statement reinforces that the Sabbath serves a divine purpose for humanity’s benefit, emphasizing its value across time.

    2. The Historical Shift from Sabbath to Sunday

The Bible’s authority on the Sabbath has been challenged and altered, especially during the reign of Constantine in the 4th century AD. Constantine, the Roman emperor who converted to Christianity, sought to unify his empire under one religious standard. However, his decree to observe Sunday as a holy day was not based on biblical command but was instead a political move to merge Christianity with the pagan practices of sun worship prevalent in the Roman Empire. Constantine's Sunday law of 321 AD declared, “On the venerable day of the Sun let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, and let all workshops be closed.”

This change was solidified further by the Council of Laodicea in 363 AD, which stated, “Christians must not Judaize by resting on the Sabbath, but must work on that day.” Thus, through imperial and ecclesiastical authority, the Sabbath was supplanted by Sunday, a day dedicated to the sun god in pagan worship. The Sabbath, however, was never annulled by YHWH or Yeshua, nor was it ever intended to change. It is an eternal covenant established by God Himself, while Sunday worship emerged from human, and specifically pagan, influence.

    3. Rebuking Pagan Sunday Worship as a Day of Worship

Scripture provides clear warnings about adopting practices rooted in pagan worship. Deuteronomy 12:30-31 warns Israel not to “inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?—that I also may do the same.’” YHWH is a God of order, setting boundaries between His ways and the ways of the world. Sunday, rooted in the worship of the sun, has no scriptural basis as a holy day and stands in direct contrast to the sanctified seventh-day Sabbath.

In Revelation 14:7, YHWH calls us to “worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.” The Sabbath, as the culmination of creation, is a testament to YHWH as Creator. Observing any other day as holy is, therefore, a substitutionary act, replacing the divinely appointed Sabbath with a human invention. This change represents the encroachment of worldly values upon spiritual truths, undermining the authority of YHWH and His commandments.

    4. The Sabbath as a Prophetic Sign in the End Times

The prophet Ezekiel records YHWH's words in Ezekiel 20:12, “Moreover, I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.” The Sabbath serves as a distinguishing mark for YHWH’s people—a sign of sanctification and obedience. In the book of Revelation, this sign becomes even more significant. Revelation 14:12 describes the faithful in the last days as “those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Yeshua.” The Sabbath remains a key element of this faithfulness, separating those who follow YHWH’s law from those who follow the traditions of men.

The prophet Isaiah also envisions the Sabbath as an eternal observance, declaring in Isaiah 66:22-23, “From one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me.” This passage is a prophecy of a time after the earth’s renewal, proving that the Sabbath will endure beyond our present world.

Conclusion: A Warning to Those Who Ignore the Sabbath

The Sabbath is not merely a day of rest; it is a declaration of loyalty to YHWH. Ignoring or replacing it is, in essence, a denial of His authority. In James 2:10-11, we read that “whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.” To disregard the Sabbath is to disregard the law itself, undermining the authority of YHWH. Those who follow Sunday instead of the seventh-day Sabbath do so in opposition to YHWH’s explicit command, placing tradition above divine mandate.

In the end times, obedience to YHWH’s commandments, including the Sabbath, will distinguish those loyal to Him from those who follow the beast’s mark. By choosing Sunday, a day with pagan roots, people are rejecting YHWH’s holy day. As Hebrews 10:26-27 warns, “For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment.” Those who reject the Sabbath, despite knowing its truth, risk facing the eternal consequences outlined in Scripture.

Let us heed YHWH’s call, return to His ways, and honor the seventh-day Sabbath as the eternal sign of our covenant with Him.

The full Sabbath commandment is found in Exodus 20:8-11:

"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy."

This commandment emphasizes the Sabbath as a day of rest, modeled after YHWH’s own rest following creation, and highlights its importance as a day set apart from all others, blessed and made holy by YHWH Himself. It’s intended for all in a household, underscoring the universal sanctity and significance of the day.

The Sabbath is from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.. This is 100% biblical and accurate..
