Hi fdKen, That article is deceptive because people only get themselves tested if they have symptoms. So that headline should say:
"Infections have PLUNGED by at least 60% among vaccinated over-60s who have come forward to be tested"
You forgot to mention this bit from that article:
"But concern had risen globally over infection, death and hospitalisation rates in the country, which remained stubbornly high."
The purpose of a vaccine is to reduce infections and disease through herd immunity. As you know, herd immunity works by insulating the vulnerable from infection by those who can no longer be infected and pass on the disease.
But, if the vaccine does not stop infection and does not prevent the virus from being passed on then instead of becoming insulators the vaccinated actually become conductors and amplifiers of the disease.
You will get lower disease and deaths eventually, but only after all the vulnerable have been killed off by the virus.
