It would be interesting for studies to be done with autism and socio economic comparisons. If Amish people are proven to be less prevalent to autism then there's all sorts of reasons why that may be, as you say their lifestyle ie hard work and diet could easily be the reason. Lower socio economic areas in Oz seem to be the greatest consumers of fast food, alcohol and cigarettes, along with obesity issues. They should compare autism rates between those areas and the more affluent areas, as that would show if there's a link with diet.
