Smallpox is gone.
The eradication of a disease is what can happen when communities co-operate and vaccinate.
Smallpox killed about 30% of the people that it infected and no known cure exists.
Those that survived had extensive scarring and some went blind.
It was the first and only annihilation of a human disease -- only possible with vaccination
Even in countries with extremely poor hygiene, the disease is gone for good.
