You actually make a fair point here (just the first half of your post - the second half is completely off topic) - measles deaths in Australia had already fallen dramatically in the second half of the twentieth century, presumably due to better hygiene, higher standard of living and better health care. The death rate fell further with vaccination, plus all those kids were spared the unpleasantness that is measles even when non-fatal.
