Qld has a good damn system connected by pipes so the regional city areas and the coastal city areas including Brisbane are well catered for. The problem being out in the cattle growing areas and to a smaller extent the cotton growing areas of Qld are in severe drought at the moment. They are not on the water grid because of the distance to individual farming properties. They have to rely on rain and some underground water but the underground water in a lot of those places is artesian and very salty.
Some parts of Qld have no water and there will be some towns running out very soon, within months. It has happened before.
I myself rely on tank water and having had little rainfall I know only have about 1 months water left and that is just for drinking and cooking and I live near a major regional city but the water grid doesn't come out my way even though Im only about 7 klm's from the town boundary.

The water supply in some crucial growing areas is now polluted with Uranium. They have stopped schools and government buildings from using underground water now. The water level in the underground areas is now so low it carries a uranium radiation at way above the government health standards. I see oranges for sale from California in my local markets and I wont buy them any more.
California is in a worse state that outback QLD at the moment.

    Its not looking good though.
