trimming winners has give me practically minimal draw down years and sometimes it is hard to ignore the noise and those who say "Haha Look im now up 200% and you trimmed at 100%" but the same people years later say "I should have gotten out and still holding"
All stocks I review are buy and hold forever but the reality of markets and companies is most never make the cut "forever".
I've trimmed most winners at around 100% even the ones I hold that are multi multi baggers they are free carried.
I can handle a winner coming back down of the profits are free carried and I protected my initial capital. I do this full time, is is my day to day so I would rather stick to a very solid strategy that has helped up during the GFC, Covid and plenty of other crashes without saying to my wife "Yep its all gone even though I was massively up at one stage"
It's never a silly idea taking profits ans I don't mean close out whole positions I am talking about initial capital out and free carry the profits to see the thesis play out. At another massive run I will even trim those profits etc...
Ive had a few multibaggers and rarely I have held a full position all the way to the very end.
Portfolio management and strategy always have helped me hedge and buffer over the years.
I have left profits in companies and all capital on some odd occasions as I mentioned, but those companies evolved so much that as they became bigger I actually revalued them as better buying now so I kept hokding and adding.
Boss may fit this category but with the added exception it sits in the Uranium space and that massively impacts the price so trimming in this case may be more warranted than say a smallcap that is growing snd delivering all the right things that doesn't have those huge gyrations in stock prices...then I can hold and not see the position drop 50% and back up in a 12 month period...which is hard.
Boss for me may be trim in 1 quarter lots.. take some profits whovh scratches the itch and gives more confidence to hold.
Because lets do day you average at 2.8 and we hit 6 and we are laughing at a 100% up then sentiment turns sour and we head back to 3... id have been more happy taking some profit if that dod occur and wont be that mad if it continues to sky rocket...either way Ive trimmed to my "Sleep Soundly Level" etc...
