I don't think the world has to collapse to see Gold at $5000. If Dow managed to stay around the 10,000 mark, at that level it's only 2:1 which we've seen on several occasions already.

It really depends on how Gold gets to the $5000 level, ctindale you seem to expect that we need to see the world collapse to get to that sort of level, but it could also come from a speculative mania like past bubbles.
