Instead of hair brain schemes such as bogus insulation and school infrastructure we should have had schemes to improve agricultural capability and productivity. Such scheme's would invigorate rural centres, promote some decentralization and ease pressure on cost of living/ housing in major centres.

The Chinese are looking at the problem holistically. This strategy will place China in a strong bargaining position as it will be able to disconnect from the global economy should it wish to, without too much domestic pain, if it so wants to embark on a trade war etc. Being sustainable, domestically, means it can muscle up against the powerful yet unsustainable west.

This is part of the reason why I think China is promoting the purchase of Gold to its citizens. This is their insulation against future economic bad weather.
