[4] The Gunditjmara Aboriginal people of that area developed an 'aquacultural system' made of fish traps and weirs which is thought to be among the world's oldest, [4] covering an area of 100 square km, thus "dispelling the myth that Australia's Indigenous people were all nomadic". [5]On the opposite end of Australia, on the Dampier archipelago off Australia’s north-west coast, archeologists found evidence of stone houses dating back 9,000 years.
