My wife's family always comes up to us and hug and kiss us, it is something that has always made me and my wife and children uncomfortable, and they have also criticized me and my son for not wanting to be hugged, particularly criticizing me for my son not liking being hugged, over the years.
Now due to my wife's entire family being vaccinated with one of the Covid-19 vaccines, we have had to tell them not to touch us, but they still ask for that hug.
People should always ask first before invading someone's space, such as touching, regardless of if it is your extended family or not.
I will be happy to give them a hug after the vaccine has worn off, but I'm sure like all sheep, they will be lining up for there 5 to 6 monthly booster shots.
