In breaking news today, albeit no surprise, Holden and General Motors close down in Australia .At the same time the PSA/FCA merger is going ahead.

PSA/FCA commenting on the Australian market had this to add. "We see a great opportunity in this market and we intend to target market share aggressively. Our first move is to open Chrysler dealerships nationwide. The flagship vehicle will be familiar to Australians but will be rebranded. We intend releasing the Opel Insignia (nee Commodore in Australia) as the Chrysler Valiant. The Saloon will be available in a range of trims known as the Ranger, Ranger XL,Regal,Regal SE, Pacer and a future two door coupe to be known as the Charger". Safari (station wagon) and Wayfarer(Utility) variants will also be available in 2WD, 4WD and SUV variants.

Drawing on Chryslers illustrious engine history the Commodore, sorry Valiant will be powered by a range of Hemi Engines. Top end performance models will get the Hellcat engine. Bonnets will be redesigned to accommodate the large engines.

A special vehicles division will be established for high end performance vehicles. It is to be known as VSV being Valiant Special Vehicles.

A spokesperson for Chrysler Valiant went on to say they are keen to enter motor racing via Supercars and have been having discussions with teams running the same silhouette vehicle. Roland Dane of Triple Eight welcomed the idea of Valiant rejoining the grid after being absent since the mid 70's and went on to say he would be keen to run the Charger or Pacer as their team race car.
