    Not that simple. They have legislative protections that essentially label them the "town square" rather than a publisher which protects them from lawsuits based on what users may say. IF they are however editing, censoring, deleting content etc. then they are a publisher and should lose those protections. So yes they are private and can do as they please - but if thats what they choose to do they should lose those legislative protections.
