That's a constant response from politicians ( "no one is forced to vote, all you have to do is turn up and get your name ticked off" ).
Which always makes the Electoral Commission look a bit silly with it's " It is compulsory to vote" statements in the Press and the media.
Obviously, voting is secret. So the law is unenforceable. Which really makes our 'democracy' and electoral law into nonsense.
But most people believe that it is compulsory. And that's good enough for political parties.
