Bacci - this is an interesting subject matter for today, which is the 11/9/2016 - 15 years after the twin towers were hit - I shall never forget, seeing it, quite by coincidence, live on TV.
Naturally, I am on the West's side; I live here, I am an Australian of Western European origin, but we have to be fair in this debate, and admit that some decisions made, particularly in the U.S.A. were plain wrong, some criminally so - they were decisive based on ignorance or, worse, lies and hence they didn't win.
Here is a quote about and also by, General Schwarzkopf, who has died in 2012; to remind you: he was instrumental in the Kuwaiti war:
"...........while focused primarily in his later years on charitable enterprises, Schwarzkopf campaigned for President George W. Bush in 2000 but was ambivalent about the 2003 invasion of Iraq, saying he doubted victory would be as easy as the White House and Pentagon predicted. In early 2003 he told the Washington Post the outcome was an unknown:
"What is postwar Iraq going to look like, with the Kurds and the Sunnis and the Shiites? That's a huge question, to my mind. It really should be part of the overall campaign plan," he said.
Initially Schwarzkopf had endorsed the invasion, saying he was convinced that former Secretary of State Colin Powell had given the United Nations powerful evidence of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. After that proved false, he said decisions to go to war should depend on what U.N. weapons inspectors found.
He seldom spoke up during the conflict, but in late 2004, he sharply criticized then-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and the Pentagon for mistakes that included inadequate training for Army reservists sent to Iraq and for erroneous judgments about Iraq."
I do agree with one poster here, that now it is a waiting game for the end of that conflict and it will come.
In the meantime we have to work out what to do with the surplus of Muslim humanity, bombed out or otherwise driven from their countries (individually through no fault of theirs) and now 'dying' (sometimes literally) to go West together with their medieval religion.
I believe we need to be humane, but insist on better integration, which would include supervision of their imams, possibly imams' education in Western ways, before being allowed to preach to their 'sheep' and some regulation of their outside 'dress' code. I am also in favour of restricting child endowment payments to no more than 2 children and making sure, they also adhere to our 'couple-marriage' system (no more 4 wives, although few can probably afford them, anyway). That will take some guts by our leaders, but the emergence of extreme right-wing parties will speed up the process. I do hope we manage it all with adherence to basic human rights.
