In John 1:1,2 you are smack on, in short in 1 & 2 are God and his mind, thoughts, plan, which naturally not realizing it, we are aligning words and word order to our thoughts, which explain those thoughts to us internally.

1 & 2 pretty much show us that God and Word are him, hence from here we see him or he.
At 1:3, those thoughts (some) have been expressed, via words ...and God said, and God said.
But when expressed, they are not him, but deemed as the spirit of him.

There is one or more verses in the Bible, the likes of -> if the spirit of man denies that Jesus is the Son of God, then they are not of God = Their words coming from them, are doing the deny = defining the mans words as the spirit of him, or part of.

1:4 In Him (Yehowah life was = in his word - and that life is the light of men = light being the expressed word of God.
So you have God's inner word here and his expressed word, referenced.

So, the opener of John centers around God and his word and what his expressed word brings.

Pretty much the parallel passage to this, 1 John 1:1,2, picks up on this expressed word = word of life.

John 5:39 - (Jesus) You search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Most think the following 1 John 1:1,2 is referring to Jesus = rubbish, it is the scriptures.

That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
(For the life was manifested, and we have seenit, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us

This eternal life - Titus 1:2 - in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,

It certainly can't be the Scriptures they handled. They were only nearing completion at the time John wrote his letters.

(John 1:1, 2) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. 2 This one was in the beginning with God.

(1 John 1:1-3) That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have observed and our hands have felt, concerning the word of life, 2 (yes, the life was made manifest, and we have seen and are bearing witness and reporting to you the everlasting life that was with the Father and was made manifest to us), 3 that which we have seen and heard we are reporting also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

The Scriptures tell us Jesus Christ had a beginning. Everything else followed.

(Colossians 1:13-16) He rescued us from the authority of the darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 by means of whom we have our release by ransom, the forgiveness of our sins. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16 because by means of him all other things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All other things have been created through him and for him.
