The USA is a slow learner. Following from Vietnam & now this, it ought to be evident that you can't fight an Ideology with high tech weaponry & Soldiers' boots on the ground.
this country is wedged between Pakistan & Iran, two Muslim countries and IMO, its futile to expect it to change while faced with poverty and 3rd world levels of education health etc.
IMO, it will take at least a 100 years for it to develop economically so that it has any chance at democracy.
