This all reminds me of a wonderful line from John Cleese in the very under-rated Clockwise. While making a mad dash laden with errors and misadventures Cleese finally sits at the edge of the road bemoaning the numerous misfortunes "Its not the despair, I can stand the despair... its the HOPE!..." that cuts deep and prolongs the agony...
hoping that money will eventuate when so many faux promises and announced dates offer a proof that despair is the best way to cope... then suddenly - another announcement and a promise that we all know will not be met... yet there remains a wee dram of hope.
The Agony.
Scott.
