FWIW if I call the intermediate wheels A, B, and C, with diameters dA, dB etc and angular velocities wA, wB etc then applying the gear formula:
wA = w1 x d1/dA
wB = wA x dA/dB
wC = wB x dB/dC
w2 = wC x dC/d2
hence w2 = wB x dB/dC x dC/d2 = wA x dA/dB x dB/dC x dC/d2 = w1 x d1/dA x dA/dB x dB/dC x dC/d2 = w1 * d1/d2 = w1
Same speed, and same direction also.
