Philippines market blast kills 11

MANILA: An explosion ripped through an outdoor market packed with Christmas shoppers in the southern Philippines on Sunday, killing at least 11 people and injuring nearly 30, police and witnesses said. The explosion was occurred at General Santos, a bustling port city.

Three people were killed instantly and eight others died later in hospitals, police investigators said.

Police sources said it was trying to ascertain that it was an attack or accident.

Police cordoned off the area, fearing more explosives may have been planted, radio reports said. A policeman said no group claimed responsibility and it was not yet clear if terrorist groups were involved.
