    Re your post which included;
    "... As daver correctly points out, there is a growing problem with retail shop overheads and their ability to compete with the same product sold on the net fron someones back shed. ..."

    This argument has been trotted out many times before to justify shopping 24/7/365.25; slashing penalty rates, placing staff on short length shifts & on constant call.

    IMO it is not clever just to hack at staff conditions & wages in efforts to maintain & increase retail profits. Businesses have a responsibility to adapt - as many fantastic businesses have already done & without the slash & burn approach to staff conditions!

    Four Albury-Wodonga examples for you:

    . A local shoe shop aims to satisfy customers with high quality products & attention to highly personalised service. They respond to customer requests & are still doing very well after 40 years! The owners value the manager & staff very highly!

    . One of our local restaurants sticks to high quality delivery of meals that have proven popular. They are willing to personalise. Business is booming due to its efforts to cater properly for the needs of all customers - families, youth, take-away ... the manager is one of the staff

    . In Beechworth a local bakery has made an art form of trading on tradition - Bakers Delight is expanding its operations.

    . Jacob Toyota is one Australia's best Toyota Dealers - I have bought 3 cars through them because their prices are fair, their service second to none & the obvious customer focus of their staff.
