    the term assimilation was not meant to be taken as literally as you have and like most things you need to read the word with context. I am not talking about an assimilation but in the general context, but integration is a better word in this instance. Not sure what you mean by ‘Australian’ but if you haven’t worked it out already we are not all the same and are quite diverse so if you haven’t found anything to integrate with you are either not trying hard enough, or in the wrong country. Why would you choose to live somewhere then complain about the people there and that where your from is better?
