Yeah, the volume in the US was incredibly low. Majority are holding. US market is consolidating ahead of their earnings season. This happens all the time.
Earnings seasons are like this. up 80 one day, down the same next day.
Yesterday General Motors (a Dow component) issues a profit warning and drags the index lower.
What do you think will happen if General Electric and Microsoft (for example) issue profit upgrades? Dow will go up 100 points.
At the end of the earnings season we'll know where the US market is headed. If it was an average to good season the Dow might just be closer to 11,000. Especially if oil continues to drop, which I hope it will.
If it's a bad season then the Dow will drop below 10,000.
