True; Militarily they would never have been beaten but failing to achieve your objectives at such a horrendous cost in lives and effort is an effectve hiding.
In Iraq the military bit will be a cake walk. There will be virtually zero resistance till they reach Baghdad, and the rest will not be too bad [but who knows]. But the Yanks are smart and have not told us their objectives, and therefore we cannot give a pass/fail.
In Vietnam the motto was "When you've got them by the cahunas, their hearts and minds will follow." [ask Yak] but it did not work then and I doubt they expect it to work now.
