In relation to the past decade or so, racism in Australia has been directed in different ways towards numerous ethnic, racial, national, religious and migrant groups, with each racialised differently under colonial rule and targeted by various forms of racism. These have included (but have not been limited to) violence against South Asian students, inflammatory rhetoric and inhumane policies towards asylum seekers, Islamophobia and racist incidents targeting Muslim Australians, mediatised racialisation and episodic criminalisation of African Australians, the spread of race-based hatred online, attacks against Asian Australians in the context of COVID-19 and the Australian government’s use of heavy border restrictions to police and contain those people whom it deems undesirable (e.g. [9,10,11,12,13]). Tappie proof is something unequivocal. it's a difficult thing to absolutely prove something in social sciences. this paper is a discussion piece on the evidence collated from research papers done across a range of approaches, some with the aim of trying to prove racism in Aus, some merely trying to assess the depth and breadth of racist attitudes.
its a pretty good analysis and is really worth considering in light of the current debate. note, this paper was publish in March '22.
in keeping with op, I consider its the No! mob that are in "melt down" as they are struggling to convince everybody that they aren't racist yet demanding, with false or specious objections, that all should vote NO!
its a very dangerous debate as it risks many negative outcomes. Even Sussan Ley doesn't seem to understand the debate as she put forward both sides of the argument on Insiders this morning trying to justify a legislated Voice to parliament while later bagging the whole proposal.... she seems a very confused person.
