    IMO this thread is off the rails.
    Consider, if one of the big 4 got into trouble the other 3 + the Reserve Bank would pile in otherwise the dominoes fall - banking is all about trust and confidence.
    If one of the smaller banks got into trouble then one of the big 4 would take it over otherwise the Reserve Bank would step in manage the windup.
    The older punters on here would remember the Bank of Adelaide demise/take-over by the ANZ - all controlled and watched over by the Reserve.
    Besides published reserves the majors all have hidden reserves - it would take a team of forensic accountants full access to the details behind the balance sheets to unravel.
    I agree though if anyone on here has lets say$100m + plus then yes,prudence requires a split - spread over all the majors. Why? Just so your imagination is put to rest and you can sleep at night.
