You make your profit when you sell assuming you find a reasonable entry point. ENtry point more relevant if you have a short term view and only expect a few % profit, not so relevant if you expect big price appreciation in the longer term. Of course if you don't buy you can't make a profit.
I am always amazed at people who post on these boards wanting to know where the tops and bottoms are - either in your chest of drawers or check the map contours.
