I'll throw in a bunch of others I'm considering (varying risk levels) - mainly small/(formerly) med cap Iron Ore companies.

I'd agree with your statement about holding for relatively short term. Though I'd break that into two parts:
1. buy on day index bottoms then sell after initial (say 1 week) bounce off lows
2. rebuy at higher low support levels and hold 2-3 months.
